How to Prepare Bulk Foods for Storage
Buying your pantry
essentials in bulk can cut down your grocery shopping costs and can make things
more convenient for you. But make sure the Bulk Natural
foods in Vancouver
you buy do not end up rotting in your pantry.
Here are some tips
for bulk foods preparation and storage:
1. Place your flour and grain, regular or wheat in
air-tight containers.
When left in their
bags, there’s a big chance critters can find their way inside. Many people also
swear by the benefits of storing flour in the fridge. This can be hard though
for your bulk products. What you can do is divide the bulk product in half.
Place one half in the freezer and the other half in a sealed container in your
pantry. This is also a more ideal set-up for whole wheat grains or flour you
don’t use heavily. You can also purchase those products that keep bugs away
from grains or flour. Freezing them can also prevent the natural oils in the
product from going rancid.
2. Oils should be stored in an airtight container as well.
Make sure the
container does not leak oil or that the outside does not have spilled oil when
you transfer the oil to the container. This is to prevent the container from
getting contaminated.
3. Remove dirt from dried beans.
Sift out lingering
dirt from the beans. You can also try wiping them with a paper towel just to
remove any collected dirt or dust on the surface of the beans. They can be
stored in a sealable plastic bag.
4. Herbs should be stored in a glass jar.
Be careful not to
squish the herbs. Wipe the glass jar clean before storing it in a dark corner
of your pantry.
These are just some
of the bulk food storage and preparation tips you should know. By knowing how
to store them, they can last for as long as they are supposed to.
